Understanding understanding.

A blue bird landed in the gutter
above my head
it wasn’t always there
it landed while i was outside
smoking
and when I put out the cigarette
the bird was still perched
looking at me
from the storm drain
while i was looking at it
it brought back memories
about how important
blue birds have been
like the time outside of Texas
where a blue bird
was perched outside
of my location
that i was unsure of
till i stopped to notice
its royal magnificence
I have never searched
for a blue bird thats perched
they just appear
and tell me
you are here
exactly where your meant to be
maybe its the same bird
constantly following me
my grandmother was
a birdwatcher
and Buddhist tell me
to believe in reincarnation
but I am no birdwatcher
and a poor excuse
who thinks
there is no real noble truths
but the thoughts are nice
so sometimes I say hello
to the bluebird
and wonder who
it might have been before
it told me where i was going.

I like this one. Beauty is in simplicity. Perhaps it reminds me of the black butterflies and purple-headed ravens that appear in my life just when I’m looking for direction. The difference is, mine always reassure me that there is truth.
